Irish Values
Family and language are more major aspects of the Irish culture. As Irish, also known as Gaelic, and English are the two official languages of Ireland, most primary and secondary school students in Ireland study Irish. Unfortunately, most in modern Ireland now only speak, or primarily speak, English. Family in Ireland is a long-engrained tradition that comes from their religious past. The “nuclear family” structure is still the norm in Ireland, however, there is growing acceptance of other living arrangements, such as LGBTQI+ families and couples without children. Just as the United States, gender equality is more common in urban areas, with rural areas tending to be more conservative, maintaining those traditional views of family and gender roles.
